Committed to Using Only the Best

American-made products, Opdyke Awning specializes in cutting-edge design and the manufacture and installation of all-types of commercial and residential awnings and canopies as well as chair reslinging and retractables. This also includes aftermarket services such as lettering and graphics as well as complete maintenance, repair and cleaning.

Opdyke operates two storefront facilities—one on Highway 35 North in Wall Township, NJ, where a selection of awning samples, designs and outdoor furniture can be found and one in Point Pleasant Beach, which is chockful of beautiful furniture as well as awning samples and a holiday shop. At both locations, the unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction that has long been an Opdyke Family tradition for four generations is still intact.

Our History

Asbury Park, home already to the Palace Merry-Go-Round, grand hotels and a sprawling boardwalk, welcomed Opdyke Awning in 1914, when a car cost about $500, the average house went for about $3,500 and a movie ticket was just seven cents. Just three years later the United States entered World War I, and the country by the sea town that was a hot spot for summer visitors had only been incorporated just 17 years earlier, but Chester B. Opdyke Sr recognized opportunity there and began to build his business. As the business grew, Chester recruited his son, Chester Jr and later his younger son, Bill to help run the business.

After both sons served in the Armed Services, they returned to the States and opened additional offices in Spring Lake and Point Pleasant Beach where they ventured into party rentals and casual furniture as they continued to build their awning business, never forgetting to make their clients a priority.

Forty-five years

After establishing a home in Spring Lake, NJ with a foresight of expanding their manufacturing, Bill Sr and his two sons, Bill Jr and Jim decided to move the operation to a 20,000-square-foot facility in Wall Township in 1996.

Now more than 100 years since its founding, Opdyke Awning continues to serve its community. Bill Sr has retired, and Jim is now running the company along with his two sons, Andrew and Alex, and the extended “family” of employees that have been working for Opdyke for many years.

The Point Pleasant Beach office has maintained its focus primarily on furniture as well as the addition of a seasonal holiday shop, a tradition that the town looks forward to every year. Opdyke Furniture Inc., operating as its own entity, welcomes clients to check out its array of furniture from hand-painted, vintage-style items to more modern pieces as well as fabric sample books for awnings.

The Opdyke Family looks forward to serving its customers for another 100 years!
